In April of 2022, we kicked off the Walking Season with a new season of Black History Bootcamp! Thousands of women across the world kicked off the season with GirlTrek and walked with their Crews while listening to Black History Bootcamp.
HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
1. What is the Black History Bootcamp Crew Series about?
Crews are a cultural phenomenon. A connection to our tribal roots. A celebration of what has survived. Often led by a de facto leader, but mostly distributed in power, crews are about the collective, about coming together and staying together - an embodiment of Ubuntu. I am who I am because you are.
This is the retelling of their stories. The 21 most influential crews in the Black Community. From the legendary Williams Sisters, to the Black Panther Party, to the Masons, to the crews who literally changed the course of the world, but who you’ve never heard of. The next 21 days will be a meditation on kinship, legacy and lineage.
2. What is a Crew? The unit of measurement by which we form our most trusted relationships in the Black community. A crew is you plus one or two women walking and talking together at least once per week. Simple. It is a private and safe group of friends, coworkers, neighbors or family members who hold each other accountable to being healthy and happy. If you don’t got no crew and you need to meet people in your neighborhood -- check out one of GirlTrek‘s new Trek Meet and Greets to find a neighbor to walk with and support.
3. How do I start a Crew?
It's easy to start a GirlTrek crew in your neighborhood.
STEP 1: INVITE one or two women to walk with you (that's a crew!)
STEP 2: COMMIT to Saturdays as your sacred day to walk in your neighborhood together.
STEP 3: CHECK IN at www.girltrek.org for the NATIONAL ROLL CALL each Saturday during your walk to let us know you did it. The roll call will include a juicy weekly walk and talk question from the Co-Founders.
Don't see a Crew? Start one: Everything you need to know about starting a Crew can be found HERE!
4. Where can I listen to Black History Bootcamp: The Crew Edition? Where do I go if I missed the live recording?
Listen in live and walk and talk with Co-Founders, Morgan and Vanessa at 12 pm ET. Our number is +1-646-876-9923. Code: 734464325# (+16468769923,,734464325#).
Missed the call? Catch up on Spotify, Apple, Amazon, or Google podcasts. Episodes are posted within 48 hours of each call.
5. Where do I walk? Is there a walk happening near me for Black History Bootcamp?
Sis, the most radical thing you can do for yourself during this season of Black History Bootcamp is walk straight out of your front door and into your neighborhood. Be the Harriet of your own neighborhood and consider walking with your neighbors, the ladies from the church choir or your coworkers. If you're looking for women walking in your area, you can visit the GirlTrek Map and connect with GirlTrek City nearest you.
That's all for now!
Thanks for being the Harriet in your community and for loving the movement.
