GirlTREK is building a corps of mental health first aid responders because this is a historic moment. Like the women of the Red Cross during wartime, we will serve as a sort of Blue Brigade. Volunteers will receive training, resources, and support in leading Mental Wellness Support Walks in their communities to provide a safe space for sisters.
Your community needs you! If you want to be among the first 1,000 care responders trained and deployed, please complete our Interest Form or email our Director of Training, ReNate Elliott, at renate@girltrek.org.
Please share this opportunity with your friends. Many hands make light work.
Q1. Is there a cost to take the Mental Health First Aid training?
No, there is no charge to GirlTREK volunteers!
Q2. Do I have to be a mental health professional to volunteer in the Blue Brigade?
Professional credentials are not necessary, but we welcome volunteers with experience in mental health and wellness.
Q3. What is the time commitment?
Upon completion of training, volunteers will be asked to serve at least two days per month for one Trek Season (March-November).
Q4. After the training, will I be able to treat or diagnose my friends and family?
Mental Health First Aid is intended to equip you with the tools and resources to support others, recognize the warning signs of a mental health challenge, and refer others to appropriate professionals. MHFA training does not equip or certify you to diagnose or treat others.
