GirlTrek, the national health movement that brought you Black History Bootcamp and #DaughtersOf is declaring Juneteenth a weekend of “radical welcome” to let Black women know that this sisterhood is their soft place. In the longstanding tradition of campaigns like “Assata you are welcome here,” we are taking to the streets of our neighborhoods and hosting Welcome Walks so Black women feel loved and cared for.
Juneteenth Walk FAQ
-
How do I host or participate in GirlTREK's Juneteenth Walk?
-
Find your spot on Wednesday, June 19th. It’s easy. Google the closest Black park or monument in your area. This is about building community in our own neighborhoods. Commit to going to the closest one, not the one you prefer.
-
Wear blue on Saturday, June 19th. It’s the official color of this movement and how we spot a sister on the street. Any blue will do. We’ll be looking for your pictures online. #GirlTrek
-
Take a Sunrise Walk: On Juneteenth, at sunrise, gather at your chosen location and walk together. This is our first act of public activism in this new chapter. Let us know you and your crew are walking here.

Will I be able to purchase GirlTREK Juneteenth gear?
This year, there will not be any GirlTrek Juneteenth branded gear. However, we are working on reducing current inventory, refreshing, and rebranding our merchandise, and should have brand new gear later in the year. Thanks for your patience. Our GirlTrek Store is open year-round. Please visit shop.girltrek.org to purchase your GirlTrek gear.
-
What if I just want to walk with friends and family?
That is okay. Please still submit your walk and follow all the instructions. When submitting your walk details, you will be able to make your walk private and share the link.
